Covid restrictions have left many housebound with extremely limited social gatherings (if any). The norm of going out has changed considerably the last year, all over the world. What has become of the fashion industry if we are all focusing on what outfit will have the least risk of contracting Covid 19? Like many other, the Pandemic has had a Colossal effect on Fashion.
Both the Textile and the fashion industry were urged by President Ramaphosa to change production to help the country with Facemasks. Adhering to strict government protocol, the Manock Team got very much involved. Desperate times call for desperate measures! Communities, different Religious groups and various NPO’s got together to help with the distributions of the masks. Little did we know this was only the beginning.
Winter 2020 was an interesting one. The people of South Africa were allowed back on the beach, restaurants and bars were permitted to open until Curfew. Small gatherings were allowed. It would seem life was going back to normal.
Weeks went by with little improvement on the Global situation. Fast forward December and we had to enter our 2nd lockdown. The festive season was, not so festive after all.
Despite the relaxation of the lockdown the Covid-19 pandemic rages on, and the fashion industry’s fate still hangs in the balance. Fashion during the Pandemic has left most of us storing our chic/black tie outfits toward the back of the wardrobe. Bringing sweatpants and leggings to the front. Casual wear is the new Trend as there are no Events to flaunt your clothing & Apparel.
At Manock Naturals we have begun with the use of Shwe-Shwe print together as a facemask and outfit. Improvising what we have around us, Adapting the Pandemic and attempting to overcome the boring Trends!
